Hi All,

A friend of mine (no, really) has called me in a panic: he was adding an account in Mail and "suddenly" his main account was gone and he says his mailboxes are missing too.

I'm afraid that I'm a Eudora user, and therefore I'm not familiar with how Mail works. Could anyone speculate as to how he might have done this so that I could at least help him a little?

Can he get them back?

Do the accounts/mailboxes still show up in the side drawer still? In the preferences?

Also have him look at the Home/Library/Mail folder. That's where Mail stores its data, so make sure the files are still there.

I'm going to visit him today and see what I can do. I very much appreciate the info, it'll give me a head start on solving the problem (esp. the info on where Mail keeps its files).

Hey SupahCoolX,

Success! I found the old mailboxes and reimported them and basically rebuilt Mail as my friend had it before (then he got the bright idea to ask me to import them into Entourage 'cause he "just wanted to try it out". It got ugly after that <heh heh>).

Looks like, when he got the bright idea to add a new account in Mail (based on a misinterpretation of advice of his ISP, which just partnered with Yahoo), he deleted the old one (and all its mailboxes). He _insists_ he did no such thing though (yah, right).

He owes me a great deal of beer for this one (I'll share with you :-)
