Just got panther. Have version 10.3.1. For some odd reason I get a stupid/extremely annoying popup box asking me to enter in my keychain password. This is for almost every application. I start up Safari: "Please Enter your keychain password" Safari wants to use keychain "Max"
I start up Mail, same thing. Start up iChat, get the same thing and it won't remember my login pass.
I think I faintly remember having this type of problem when I first installed Jaguar back in the day. It's extremely annoying and all I do is just hit the cancel button. I get like 2 (sometimes 3) of the same boxes, just hit cancel.
THanks in advance

Open:
HD/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access
From the "Window" menu, select "Keychain First Aid" and run it...
Help?

Thanks mon, definitely a start. I went to verify it and got this:
Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for Max Wilhelm (user ID=502)
Home directory is /Users/max
Checked login keychain
Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/max
Password for ~/Library/Keychains/max is not the same as login password, so keychain can't be unlocked automatically
Unable to read settings for ~/Library/Keychains/max
Checked default keychain
Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/max
Problems were found; you should choose the Repair option to fix them
Verification failed
Then I tried repair. I got a dialog box at about the 5th line, asking me for my keychain password (like the others). So I tried my login password, didn't work.
Repair started
Checking keychain configuration for Max Wilhelm (user ID=502)
Home directory is /Users/max
Checked login keychain
Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/max
Password for ~/Library/Keychains/max is not the same as login password, so keychain can't be unlocked automatically
Login password could not be synchronized with keychain ~/Library/Keychains/max (-128)
Unable to read settings for ~/Library/Keychains/max
Checked default keychain
Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/max
Warning: some problems were not fixed
Repair failed

try changing your keychain's password to match your user's password... i think it's in the 'edit' menu in keychain app.

My bet is that you changed your user password when you finished upgrading to Panther, so basically when repairing the keychain use your old Jaguar password which should then allow it to repair, and then change your password as Some Guy says by going to Edit - "Change Password for Keychain "whatever"...
Enter your old Jaguar password followed by your new Panther one, and hopefully then hopefully it will stop bugging you

Crap, doesn't seem to be working... I think my Uncle might have changed it before. Thanks for the advice.

I've been having keychain issues all weekend...is this common? I'm wondering if I did something lame. The one thing that was strange that I did this past weekend was try to install Macmame, which refused to mount.
At some point, keychain kept asking me to input my password. I'd do it but then it said, "error, cannot save pass..."
then it gave me an option to cancel or set to default.
I tried repairing it by going to keychain access at one point, but it didn't help. So I ended up re-installing panther (archive and install), but chose the "preserve user setting" checkbox.
The password problem is still there, and in fact, it's probably gotten worse! For some bizarre reason all my web-based passes are gone. The dock kept going back to default shortcuts. My registration codes had to be re-entered for software like Acquisition. Plus my bookmarks got erased.
I'm probably going to try and do another archive and install, but this time uncheck "preserve user settings." If that doesn't work I'll backup whatever I have and just nuke the entire installation, but I'd hate to do that...such a waste of time having to re-install all my apps for the 2nd time since I got my 15" pb.
Please mention any suggestions if you have any!

My keychain problem is at every login I am asked for a password after I login. either fire, or something from the auto launch apps. This started with Panther. Any ideas?

If it's the same Password as your log-in password is, I would try a keychain repair, and just poking around Keychain right now I see that under "Access Control" there is a button for "Ask for Keychain password" which I assume will do what it says if checked, and ask for the password when a program tries to access it. I would suggest poking around in there.

Have you tried repairing permissions?

late into this thread.
I was having the same issues as the original poster. I had changed my log in password when I upgraded to panther, leaving my keychain password as it was before. I didn't realise this would be a problem.
running Keychain First Aid reset my keychain password to be the same as my log in password, and so far this looks like it's done the job for me.
Thanks guys,
J.
