This is weird. I select Mac Help from the Finder and the Help Viewer loads but then the whole app seems to run in slow motion. Takes about 30 seconds for the topics to appear...

My old G4 400 with a fresh panther has really quick Mac Help. My 867 12" PB just sits there. It was OK a while back. I've just checked the disk and checked permissions and it's the same...

My Help was working fine a month ago - hadn't used it since then.
Tried it last night on the mail app (wanted to know how to write a rule/filter) and it behaved the way that you mention.

I have updated to the newest developer release of Java 1.4.2 and it broke a bunch of my apps and so I figured it was related to that. But if you haven't done that, then perhaps it is something different.

It's weird - I logged in as root and help was fine, logged back in as me and it was OK again.

Odd.
