Make a new folder in Mail on your computer. Then rename it to ".whatever". It will disappear. I renamed my most important folder to .something to sort it to the top, like I used to do in Entourage. I tried this with a blank folder and got the same results. How do I get these folders back?

Then I realized that Mail was probably smart enough to let me drag reorder. Sure enough, i could drag a folder to a new position. let go, and it disappeared too! How do I get this folder back! Arg!!!

Thanks

Make sure Mail is not running. Do a cmd-f in the Finder to bring up the find field, Set it up as: Search in Home, Name Contains (name of Folder) click the '+' and add visibility set that to inviable items. Then click Search. It will find the file in this format .(Name of Folder).mbox remove the period. Launch Mail it will be back. this happens since a period at the beginning of a file — to system means hide it. Hope you get it back!

Since you can't rename it via the Finder you will need to do it via the Terminal. First do the steps above and have the search results window visable, you will need it. Open terminal and at the prompt type mv then hit space. Drag the search result into the terminal, it will put the path to the file in the terminal window, then drag it a second time, you will now have mv then 2 instances of the same path listed. make sure the Terminal window is activate then delete the .Name.mbox of the last file path, removing the period. So it would be /.Name.mbox, you would change it to /Name.mbox. Hit return, you should just get another prompt with no message. Launch Mail, it should take a second or two for the folder to appear. Hope I made sense.

Thank you! This worked perfectly!
