I have a Canon i850 connected to my PowerBook (10.3.1) via USB, trying to share it with my XP machine on the local network. Ain't working:
1) Windows Sharing and Printer Sharing are turned on on the Mac.
2) I attempt to configure a network printer on the PC: if I browse, the PC sees my PowerBook but doesn't see the i850. So I explicitly type in \\myipaddress\i850. XP complains that "server has wrong print driver" (?) but nonetheless allows me to install the Canon driver locally and finish setting up the printer.
3) I try to print. PC does its job without any reported errors. However, no job shows up on the Mac, and nothing is actually ever printed.
Clearly I've missed something here. The fact that the printer doesn't show up when I browse from the PC is probably the key, but I don't know what else to do to make it show up. Help!

Exactly same problem here with my HP Color Laserjet 1500L. I read on www.macwindows.com that this is a problem with panther. The sharing just does not work.

Well, I finally found the proper procedure for mounting a SAMBA printer under XP here. Initially it gave me a password error, but I was able to get rid of that by first mounting a file share to my PowerBook, and entering the password there. So everything looked good.
And still nothing prints, no error reported.

Holy crap, I got it to work.
Saw a mention on the macwindows page (thanks for the link, Google didn't find it for me when I was searching) that Panther makes its connected printers visible as PostScript printers. This reminded me of something I read elsewhere.
So, I went back on the PC and configured the printer as an HP Laserjet 4100 PS. Worked, in monochrome.
Went back again and re-configured the printer as an HP Color Laserjet PS. Printed in color.
So there it is. A strange series of steps, appallingly poorly documented by Apple, but it does at least seem to work.
Addiecool, try configuring a PostScript printer on your PC, and see if that works.
