Please help... I am so tired of my epson printers not working properly, it's time to make a change. My epl 5700 has a driver, but I can't get it to work with Panther... and my Photo 780 needs to be cleaned and then needs ink every three prints!

I just need a personal laser for work purposes...Is there a good < 250 HP or something that will work seamlessly?

thanks in advance

don't know how much they run, but the hp 1200? series were prevalent at work (at a major college). i bought my parents a hp 2100tn, on the other hand, which, although way above your budget, is ideal if you print a lot and want a standalone network printer rather than one shared through its host mac.

If you don't need Postscript, then try the HP Laserjet 1012. Works great in Panther. 15ppm speed, no issues with the driver, USB interface (works great shared via the Airport Extreme basestation). Amazon has them for $159.

I bought a Brother 1440 yesterday for $150 at Staples. Works great. I've got it plugged into my airport, and after installing the drivers on the Macs in the house, all can see it.

In fact, the only computers having trouble printing to it are the Windows machines, on which I can't even install the drivers due to an inability to find the friggin' XP disks (they're in a box somewhere...somewhere) it wants--FOR WHAT REASON GOD ONLY KNOWS--in order to install the damned things.

Anyway. Brother 1440. 15ppm. Good DPI (1600?). Cheap. Small. 250-sheet feeder. Both top and front output.

thanks for the great input on this thread,
though i'm not ditching an epson currently
