I am stumped (not difficult to do) by this message in the log after daily maintenance:
mail:

Any clues how to fix or why this is occurring?

Did postfix not start back up after a log rotate perhaps. Anything interesting in /var/log/mail.log?

Dec 10 11:15:09 ***-Computer postfix/postdrop[553]: warning: unable to look up public/pickup: No such file or directory
This odd because I haven't done anything (neither created, moved, nor deleted files).
Where would this directory/file go?

I recall reading somewhere that there should be a /var/spool/postfix/public/pickup named pipe.
Forgot to add, you can create the named pipe by typing mkfifo /var/spool/postfix/public/pickup
Permissions should be prw--w--w- .

This gets odder and odder. I tried your command, and got the message that the file already exists. I've also started and stopped postfix, checked all mboxes. Cannot figure this out.

You may find someone with a similar problem over at Neohapsis. Try this Googlicious Link . Sorry, running out of ideas.
