does anyone know of a way to get the default mac screenshooter (cmd-shift-3|4) to save somewhere besides the desktop?

working on a lab image, going for a "clean desktop" ideal.

we know about SnapZ Pro X, we've used it in the past, but now its just getting expensive.

no, the idea is to keep desktop locked (as in, not writable). we're in a student environment, nobody cleans up after themselves. (i know we can trash the contents of the desktop nightly, etc.)

looking for a way to have screenshots to be saved to somewhere like

Isn't this the perfect job for a folder action script?

could you elaborate?

i assume you mean make Desktop writable, but make everything that is written to it move to something like
System:Users:user1:Documents ?

if thats what you're suggesting.. uh. well its a good idea :) hadn't thought of it.

Can you just show people to hold down the CTRL key, and then screen-shot will go straight to the clipboard for pasting in where needed? I don't know the type of work the students are doing, but it's the easiest on you (eg, no AppleScript's...)

You've obviously never worked in a computer lab. Imagine 40-50 computers, being used constantly by students coming and going, and there's generally one student admin working in the lab to help people who have questions.

At least, that's how it was when I was in school.

I would assume that the boxes are OSX, and that each user has their own login. If not, and they are sharing a login, I'd have a script that cleans up when a user has been idle or logs out.
