Just to rehash an old trick for those new folks here and the old members who don't remeber this one.

One thing to make apps load a little faster is to gid rid of the extra languages supported by the Apps.

If you get info and then click on languages you will see a bunch there. I have noticed that you DO get back some Drive space as well as making the App load a little quicker. Especailly some of the iApps and other 3rd party apps.

What apps in particular have you noticed a big difference?

Thx.

Some Apps that I have found it helps is Photoshop and the iApps. Though iPhoto is still slow at loading images when you have a lot. It does seem to load a little quicker though. Maybe it's just me. I do remember people talking about this trick in the early days of OS X.

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try it out. In the "Get Info" window, do you need to actually remove the language or just uncheck it?

thx

Photoshop's additional localizations are all empty folders, so I think you're just imagining any gains.

Removing localizations certainly does free up a lot of disk space, though. You can shrink iMovie from 80+ MB to just over 20MB.

I really think the only gain is in disk space. The OS always check to see if there is a folder for the main language, and if it finds it ignores the rest, so if you have set your language as English you are pretty sure getting it always quick.

I definitely hark to the older days. I now have a dual G5 with 250 GB of space and what do I do? Promptly download Delocalizer and run it!

I had forgotten about DeLocalizer after installing Panther.

I didn't think I installed other languages but I ended up saving 257 Mb of space by running it. Not a big deal but hey, it was an easy 5 minute break from my normal routine.
