Since the latest installation of Security Update to Jaguar a number of diconcerting things are occuring to my navigating in the finder. First of all my mouse has taken on a whole new dimension of sensitivity, when I am trying to drag an item to the trash the item suddenly launches the application and opens the item all within the blink of an eye, similarly almost the entire top bar of any opened window acts like the orange button, when I try to drag a window with my mouse from the top bar of the window the entire window suddenly dives into the dock, I have had to develop a whole new handling with the mouse, it seems that if I depress the mouse to heavily these things happen whereas if I ever so lighly click and drag I can forstall these problems. It doesn't always happen so smoothly in fact my work efficiency has dropped significantly.
Another related issue is organising my bookmarks within the Safari Bookmarks window. Before the update I had no problem organising my bookmarks but once again if I depress the mouse to hard either the page will open while I am trying to relocate the selected boookmark to its appropriate folder or if I successfully move the selected bookmark to its appropriate location then that folder suddenly opens in the window. These problems aren't as severe as the ones working in the finder its just that any speed enhancement in the enitre system that may have improved is overshadowed by the amount of time I have to spend getting back to my original points of organisation,
Anyone else know what I'm talking about ?

Haven't had any such problems, but all the symptoms you mention, sound like they could occur if the mouse button was double-clicking, instead of single clicking (or in some way clicking a lot more than it should be).
Are you using a 3rd party mouse or mouse driver? Do you have a standard mouse you could try instead?

I am using the older style ADB 11 Keyboard and mouse, I thought that these may eventually become problematic. I have noticed more recently that in some pages the cursor goes a bit haywire or loose or something wherein I am struggling quite a bit with the mouse to go where I want the cursor to go.
I clean my mouse out rather frequently even though this doesn't seem to help much, but since I posted this topic I have found by trial and error that if I position the mouse/cursor at the lowest part of the top of the window I can safely move the window frame. I have only just now recovered my machine from yet another unwieldy experience. Preview failed to open a couple of images so I tried to quit it and then the computer went into neurotic state wherein dialogue box upon dialiogue box of "Logout has timed out because the application preview failed to quit. To try again quit preview...etc" Problem was the computer seemed to get locked in an infinite loop of this dialogue box. This loop went on for about 2 hours wherein the coloured rotating ball never regained itself as an arrow and I was very hestitant about doing a hard reboot because of what others were saying to me, about having to reinstall etc but I did it ayway with touching wood. Well anyway if my preview app is corrupted can I just get another copy of it, or do I have to that whole tedious reinstall thing ?

About a week ago, also after running Software Update, I began noticed odd mouse behavior in my Panther system.
The mouse either ignores clicks, or loses its grip or double-clicks will occur spontaneously when I clicked only once.
I have learned so far that the problem is in software, for changing to a different mouse has no effect.
In addition, when the mouse "loses its grip", it actually is registering a click, but not where the cursor is located! Sometimes, it is to the left and sometimes to the right. It will also double-click in these locations, and double-click speed setting doesn't seem to alter its behavior.
An easy way to reproduce the behavior is to try to drag a Safari window by holding the mouse down over the window title. About half the time, the window ignores the click and won't budge.

Well I recently found an easy and valuable solution to our problems get and run Mac Sweeper 2.0. (freeware) After I installed it I wemt to the area that allows you to run everything which I did in the backgound whilst browsing and amazingly although it said that it would take awhile it worked and ran quite fast; you must authenticate before you run anything and when it finshes it asks you to authenticate again, It repaired all my strange foibles with the mouse and windows etc but I still I notice that my mouse behaves somewhat eratically over some heavily designed web sites, but since these are far and few between I don't worry about it too much. After running Mac Sweeper I noticed that my drives got back 2 and 5 meg of space and my corrupted version of Preview works fine again.
