panther start up disk on a firewire drive

I installed panther on a firewire drive but can't start from it..the drive chooser indicates a system on the drive but once restarted, the blinking ? stays untill my jag drives picks up...

any thoughts?

are you just changing the startup drive in sys prefs, or are you booting while holding option, and then choosing the drive?

hmmm well yes in the sys preference...i didn't know about pressing option...will try thx

am i right? you say to holding option down while i reboot? it didn't work just now..what am i doing wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, do you have one of the older computers (i.e. Blue & White G3, or an old computer w/ FireWire card) that can't boot from FireWire drives?

doh! yes as a matter of fact i have a b/w g3

Only Macs with AGP graphics can boot from USB or FireWire.
