I can't give you the lowdown, but funnily enough, I've just been reading this article at PDFzone which contains a few pointers on where to start looking.

thanks for the link JKT, what a coincidence! hopefully it'll work in Panther, the cost of Acrobat doesn't justify with infrequency of use.

I don't mean to derail this thread, but I've been using PDFs to distribute handouts for my students this past semester (since OS X makes it so easy). Some of my students have complained that the PDFs don't open, or open as a blank page, on their machines.

I've generally been chalking this up to a couple of things:

1) They're not waiting long enough for the PDF to download on their crappy dialup.
2) They don't have Acrobat Reader
3) They have some older version of Acrobat Reader

Is this pretty much it? Or is there something else? Does anyone know whether or not there are serious issues with OS X's PDFs that I should be aware of before I rely upon them again?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Scott

here's a discussion about quality pdf production on panther without using acrobat.

rosenthol rebuts article

it's got the most detailed description i've seen so far about bringing panther's apps together to produce pdfs.
