Sounds like a stupid question, but:

What I have:
1. PB G4 12" DVI (rev. B) that requires at least 10.2.8 (I think) or later.
2. 10.2 Install disks.
3. 10.2.8 Combo updater.

What I want:
To have a partition on a PB with 10.2.8 and DiskWarrior 3.0 which does not run on Panther (and the PB can't be booted from DW 3.0 CD).

So how do I do this? I am puzzled since I cannot install 10.2 on PB in a first place (it refuses to boot from Jaguar 10.2 CD).

Thanks.

PS. I do not have external FW drives (besides iPod).

well the PB G4 rev. B certainly did not require 10.2 at all - it was a TiBook that ran at 550 and 667 MHz, and it came out about the same time they released 10.1

(I'm guessing you mean 12" or 17" rev. B, or the new 15" which is rev. A of the aluminum 15" PB G4)

Regardless, if your drive is not already partitioned, and you can't start up from the 10.2 install disks, you should start from you 10.3 install disks, partition the disk, install 10.3 onto the section you want, and then try to start up using the 10.2 disks to install on the remaining partition.

You may also be able to install a system on your iPod, start up from that, and then install onto the desired partition...

Yes, as my signature says - PB 12" DVI (=rev. B).

That's the problem - I cannot boot PowerBook from 10.2 disks.

Thanks anyway. So, iPod is probably the only way to go.

What version of the Jag install disks do you have? You may need the version of Jaguar shipped with your PB instead of 10.2.0. It may not be compatible with that. did your PB ship with 10.2 install disks (10.2.6, maybe?) or 10.3?

Unfortunately, the PowerBook shipped with 10.3.

Heheh... never thought I'd hear a new Mac owner say that before 10.4 was released!

agreed.

well - try the iPod thing

but if nothing else, don't worry about the diskwarrior thing - with journalling enabled and whatnot, disk corruption is not nearly the problem it was before

Thanks to everyone for suggestions. I've received also an "official" reply from Alsoft about incompatibility of DW 3.0 and Panther and new hardware which I posted here
