i know of the ipod2itunes software, but how do i get around iTunes erasing her drive once she connects it?..it is set on auto-sync...if i remember correctly, the preference button to change it to manual sync only shows up in iTunes once you connect an iPod...?

This should help. Get Tinkertool here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/5721

Delete iTunes to leave iPod alone. Open Tinkertool, go to finder tab/enable invisible items. Now go to ipod/iPod_Control/Music
(firewire ability is on, right?)
Inside that folder you'll see a directory full of folders, each with your music files. Make a new folder on the computer and copy all of them to it. Reinstall iTunes and drag them to the the window. (They should copy and reorganize themselves)

The ipod shouldnt auto erase anything if there is no iTunes library anymore

create a new iTunes library (basically open iTunes)

connect the iPod

use a program called iPodRip to get all the music from the iPod into the iTunes Library

This option will also let you keep all of your playlists

The program is shareware, but you can use it 10 times before you need to buy.

So she can make the mistake 9 more times.

good luck.
