Pardon my rant.

Ok, this is getting just ridiculous. I use Mail every day to run my websites, but how can I write emails when it crashes all the time, literally every 4 - 5 minutes. Yesterday I sent through copious numbers of Crash reports to Apple in the hope that they can offer a fix with the next update.

The problems only started a couple of days ago while using 10.3.1 and are continuing with the same alarming frequency on 10.3.2. It seems to stumble when I delete a message or mark a message as junk - happens nearly every time. The junk filter is now for nothing, deletes nothing. What is going on? I need help, please.

Tried to post my crash log but it is too big.

visit www.macosxhints.com for help on this issue, it's been documented around this forum a few times over recent days (including by me).

You need to trash the /library/mail/LSMMap2 file. this will remove all your junk training but should solve the crashing problems.

Also, make sure you've repaired permissions etc. Mail started doing this on me the other day, no idea why.

Don't know if the new mail update in 10.3.2 will make any difference to this problem.

Hope this helps,

J.

Thanks, I deleted the file and things seem to be running a lot smoother. I think I will delete it every now and again just to keep things ticking over, or Apple get their finger out and fix this issue. I'm sure that from the sheer number of crash logs I have sent them over the last couple of days they can figure something out!

What happened to their quality control? Do they not test anymore?

<added> BTW, is your signature sometimes being added to the end of a thread, instead of at the end of your most recent message? This has also started recently for no apparent reason. </added>

Give 'em a break. It's a bug that isn't that prevalent. I, along with a ton of users out there, haven't experienced it. I'm sure they are doing their best to fix it. I'm sure they appreciate the crash reports you are sending.

I understand that it isn't system critical, it doesn't break everything like a similar problem in Windows probably would.

BUT, I kinda get the feeling that 10.3 has caused more than it's fair share of bugs. I can't help but feel that Apple are getting the releases out too quick with their yearly cycle.

OK, most people don't get these bugs, and software is never finished, and yes people do install haxies and mess up their system. I can appreciate that after making a lot of system level changes some things can go wrong. But why can they get the major things mostly correct and then let a tonne of little annoying bugs through, like the Mail.app crash bug, or the everlasting disconnecting that is affecting a lot of people, or the slightly disjointed UI, the dodgy networking (fair enough, it's better than Windows) ...

Don't get me wrong here, I love OS X. I used to work on Wondows but saw the light and moved and love this platform, it's just better. But I just hope that Apple don't get carried away with their yearly upgrades which promise big things and mostly deliver, but are let down by enduring the small niggly bugs.

I had this problem too, it would crash when I marked them as junk. The solution was to recreate a Junk Mailbox, which at some point along the line, I deleted.
