Hello ...
Dual 2.0 G5 running 10.3.1.
In the Software Update panel, I see three updates (G5 Firmware, 10.3.2, XCode) waiting patiently. I click the "Install 3 Items" button, and nothing happens. (The button selects and de-selects, but no installation takes place.)
I choose to download the updates. Going to the individual installer packages, I double-click and get through to the "Easy Install" pane of the installer app. I click the "Install" button and nothing happens. (The button selects and de-selects, but no installation takes place.)
I've re-booted numerous times and repaired permissions.
Suggestions?

Hello ...
I've had the G5 since the end of September.
Another failed strategy: I created an additional admin user and tried to do the upgrades from that account. Still no dice.
Interesting side note: The button images in my login panel (and the shiny apple at the top) don't show up. They're still in the LoginWindow bundle, however.

Hello ...
I erred above: I didn't create a new admin user. I simply switched to a second, existing, admin user.
Now, when I try to create a new admin user, the authentication padlock won't open. (The label flashes "Authenticating..." but immediately returns to "Click the lock to make changes.") Indeed, the authentication padlock in each lockable pref pane won't open.
It seems this is a system software problem, which makes this the wrong forum. I'm going to hunt around for prior incident reports, then post to the OS X forum if I come up empty.
Regards ...

This seems to be a Mac OS X related problem, not PowerMac related -> moved to the Mac OS X forums.
