For a couple days now my PowerBook hasn't been automatically sleeping by time anymore. It used to go to sleep very reliably.
It will still sleep on command and by closing the lid.
I've been accepting all the recent software updates which seemed to coincide with this problem developing.
I tested different time settings, checked to see if it would sleep with battery or with power, with or without external display, with BlueTooth mouse in range and not in range. Nada. No automatic sleeping.
Any thoughts?
Erik
PowerBook G4 1 Ghz. Wireless. BlueTooth mouse. 1 month old. Accepted all the recent updates.

Just a long shot ... have you tried repairing permissions?
Here's a great app for doing that automatically
Macaroni
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9633
Macaroni is a tool which handles regular maintenance for Mac OS X's Unix core. Normally these tasks run on a regular schedule, in the middle of the night. However if you don't leave your Mac on all night, they never run. Your Mac won't wake from sleep to handle this. Macaroni solves this problem. If a scheduled maintenance task is not run when it's normally scheduled, Macaroni automatically ensures that it's run at the next opportunity, whenever the Mac is on.

Although I didn't yet get to trying the permission fixing idea (thanks bergy), I started turning everything off I could think of one by one.
When I got to removing SideTrack 0.7.2 auto sleeping started working again (whether it is related to this I'm not sure). The problem has so far not recurred since I installed the newer SideTrack 0.7.4.
Thanks all for your time.

Problem is back: my PB12" is again not reliably auto sleeping as per the Energy Saver settings. I come home from being away and it's still on.
SideTrack is no longer installed. Therefore I've determined it's not SideTrack.
I guess I'll call Apple Support at this point.

Keep in mind that some applications or programs running in the background, may very easily prevent your Powerbook from auto sleeping.
