I'm trying to use my Sidewinder USB in a game and there's an option to use a "inputsprocket" in order configure the gamepad for use in the game. However, "inputsprocket" (whatever that is) is not available for use in Mac OS X (at least according to the game notes). I found this one piece of software though:

http://www.zsculpt.com/website/appsu...hidwizard.html

And apparently this software will allow me to use it in OS X (I still have no idea what it does). The directions say : "EASY to use. Simply replace InputSprocket's stub library in your projects with HID Wizard's stub library, and like magic, all your ISp function calls will now work in OS X!"

Anyone have any idea what that means or how I install this?

Thanks,

Sounds like a library that you'd build into an application you're making, not a standalone solution. InputSprocket was an OS 9 thing, and it was not ported to OS X. I guess this provides equivalent functionality, but only if one builds it into an app.

In other words, keep looking.

As already said, HID Wizard won't solve your problem, as it's just a library for game developers to use. With that said, thanks for pointing out this library! It looks really cool, and with luck, maybe game developers will latch on as InputSprocket was a great piece of technology.

As for your particular problem, though, perhaps you should look at USB Overdrive. It provides a lot of options for configuring USB input devices.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist 2.5.2. Macworld - five mice!

Oh ok. Thanks for the tip. I was trying to use it w/ my SNES emulator, but apparently this is not going to work. USB Overdrive lets me configure my gamepad, but it doesn't interface w/ the emulator, unfortunately. I'll keep looking. Thanks!

You don't need USB Overdrive to "interface" with the emulator. It will do what you are looking to do.
