To my understanding I should have everything set up in 10.2.6 to connect via PPPoE, but for some reason the connection is being refused. I'm visiting relatives and would like *not* to have to use this old 166mhz machine running Windows 95! >_< Is there special software that I need from Sympatico in order to connect (since usually there is for Windows) or shouldn't setting up the user id and password in Network then using Internet Connect be enough to connect?

have you tried powering the modem off for about 30 seconds or so? i don't know about sympatico, but some providers have the service linked to the MAC address....

Hmm.... I'll give that a shot...
(And all because I'd much rather use OS X while I'm up here! )
*edit*
I got it to work.
*cops standing around: "Nothing more to see here, folks."*

Just in case somebody is looking at how to do this in the future Sympatico does have a page on buried in the depths of their web-site...
http://www1.sympatico.ca/help/Software/osx.html
A friend who just got a new Mac actually phoned Bell for help to get it all set up on the internet, and the support guy actually stated that their high speed service was not supported under Mac OS X, and to complain to Apple for a software fix. So that's who he called next, but of course the guy at Apple informed him that this wasn't the case, and even went out and found all the info for him.

It's quite easy. All you need is the user id and password; setup the Network preferences with those and dial up with Internet Connect.
