Sure, the built-in mail server is great.

How much do you know about DNS? Do you need to set it up at all? What's your environment? All you really need to do is have your ISP set up MX records for your mail server, assuming you have a block of static IPs.

I would not call myself an expert on DNS but I set it up on My Windows 2000 Server.
I am sold my 2k server and bought OS X server replace Microsoft Exchange Server.

The OS X server needs to be the DNS and DHCP server for itself and all networ clients. I own bovie.us and boviecomputer.com and they both have A and MX records that point to my IP Address. Do I need a MX record on my server? I don't need one to run my Exchange Server.

Can you give me a quick step by step guide to setting up DNS and mail on OS X server. I do know how DNS and mail works but I would not call myself an expert. I know I should beable to setup DHCP and set the server up as a windows domain controller on my own.

Thank you in advance for any help!!!

Hi,

I can't give you a quick step by step guide to setting up DNS and mail... that's beyond the scope of a BB post

There are documents on all of this on Apple's OS X Server documentation page:

http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/

I'd suggest reading the "mail services administration" doc... it's quite thorough.

MX records are necessary in *somebody's* DNS so that mail to your email is properly routed to your mail server.
