I currently have norton system works , and when i run the disk doctor it says i have severe as a condition. I tried to use Speed disk as as a defrag. It keeps failing, and i wnat to fix this problem.
On windows there is an amazing progrm called Perfect Disk, that will defrag anything.
is there a better defrag program for the mac?
thanks

Did you try repairing the disk first?
The vote is that Disk Warrior is the best utility. I don't know if defragging is as useful...

What version of Norton Utilities do you have? Did you boot from the CD? Remember, you shouldn't run Disk Doctor or Speed Disk (or any disk utility for that matter) on the disk that you booted from.

You don't have to defrag anymore. It's simply not important nowadays with faster hard drives and whatnot.
The only disk utility you should need is DiskWarrior.

If you want to Defrag the Drive or optimize the best tool for the job is TechTool Pro 4.

Generally, fragmentation is a non-issue in MacOS X. Furthermore, if you are under Panther, there is no need to defrag the drive since the OS itself does that on the fly.
