I submitted the following bug report to Apple re: a mouse cursor freeze in 10.3.2. Please see if you can reproduce this issue, and respond here. If so, please submit a bug report to Apple ( http://bugreport.apple.com) so they fix it in the 10.3.3 release. Thanks!
In Mac OS X 10.3.2 (build 7D24), if you move the mouse around while logging out, the mouse cursor will be frozen when you reach the login screen. The keyboard will still function, however. Full mouse functionality does not return unless you reboot the computer, and that is the only way. All buttons and scroll whells (if present) will work; the only functionality missing is the ability to move the cursor around the screen with the mouse. This happens using native OS X drivers (no 3rd party drivers installed at all), and either an Apple optical USB mouse or a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB. This also happens when the mouse is plugged into any available USB port on the computer; it makes no difference (I've tried all combinations). Note that this does NOT happen when accessing the "Login Screen" via Fast User Switching.
Both mice were used since OS X 10.1, and this is the first time I've experienced this problem. This is 100% reproduceable. Not sure if it happened in previous versions of Panther, as this is the first I've used on a regular basis, but it was not a problem in 10.1 through 10.2.8, at the very least. Thanks.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE :
1. Log into an OS X account of any type.
2. Log out, and move the mouse around while the computer is logging you out. Continue moving the mouse around until you reach the login screen.
RESULTS:
1. Mouse cursor freezes, and won't respond again until a reboot.
REGRESSION:
1. Happens using any hardware configuration in OS X 10.3.2, build 7D24.
Please note that I can now confirm that this problem DID NOT exist in Mac OS X 10.3 (build 7D85), the publicly released version. This is new with 10.3.2. Thanks.

Try moving the mouse around as you log out, and do not stop moving it until the login screen appears (where you can select or input a name to login with).
Thanks.

That's exactly what I did. I even tried with both, trackpad and mouse. Working like a charm here... (Running 10.3.2).

Thanks. Appreciate your effort. Perhaps I have a conflict with another of my USB devices, maybe even the hub. I'll experiment with it a bit, and post something back here when (or if) I figure it out. Still, though, it's entirely reproduceable; I even cleaned the drive and reinstalled 10.3. Weird.
Thanks again.

this happens without fail everytime I try. Kensington optical mouse. Happens with or without the Mouseworks drivers installed. This is on a clean install 10.3.2.

Well, I disconnected everything except the Apple keyboard and Apple optical mouse, and I have the same problem. Guess it's a 10.3.2 bug, as I thought.

Does it happen on all of your machines, or just selected ones?

Just tried it with my titanium powerbook and the mouse worked fine. Tried it with the mouse (Logitech MX700 Optical) plugged into the KVM and with the mouse plugged directly into the PB. Both times, the mouse works fine after logging out and logging in.

I actually don't know if it will happen with my other two machines, I will install 10.3.2 on those and check.
I've noticed now that it strangely will NOT always freeze the mouse if I am moving it around while logging out. I'm trying to figure out the exact circumstances necessary. It seems that the mouse will not misbehave if there is more than one user logged in. I have to restart to make it start freezing again.

There's a very specific time that the mouse needs to be moving in order for it to freeze while logging out. On my machine (867 MHz G4 Quicksilver), there's sort of a screen refresh (it's very fast) that occurs in between when your desktop exits and the login screen appears. In fact, if you look closely enough, you'll see that the mouse cursor disappears for about a 1/100 of a second and reappears at the login screen. It seems to be at this point that if you're moving the mouse, it will freeze. I'm not sure which process is killing it, but it's definitely happening.
BTW, I reinstalled 10.3 the other day cleanly on the same machine (after formatting the drive), and it did not happen in 10.3.0. Not sure about 10.3.1, but since my machine had the "black screen of death" problem when waking from sleep in 10.3, I need 10.3.2 to fix that problem. Oh well, one problem fixed, another presents itself. Maybe this is Apple's subtle way of telling me that I need a new G5.

Yes, this must happen for the mouse to freeze, but sometimes there is NO screen refresh at logout. If the screen doesn't do the refresh thing, then the mouse will not freeze. If I've had multiple users logged in since the last restart (even if they're not still logged in), the screen will not do the refresh and the mouse will not freeze.

Well, for me, I always have the screen refresh at logout, but only if there is no one else logged in (I'm using "Fast User Switching", obviously). Something different is happening when logging out while no one else is logged in. I'll amend my bug report to Apple so they can isolate (and hopefully squash) the problem. Thanks again for your assistance in tracking this down.

Oh yeah... My BT mouse is always freezing up. It normally happens after sleep. When it wakes up normally after five little taps it wakes up but there are the times I have to go and turn it over and turn it off and on again.

I haven't had that happen at all. However I was moving it towards a window and it suddenly decided to lock up, for a second or two. Very frustrating!
