I had 9.2.2 on this iMac DV.

A LOOOONG time ago, I had installed an OSX beta, which I eventually uninstalled and forgot about, and went back to os 9.x until now.

Now, I am trying to install Jaguar on the machine, and it goes through the installation steps, but once it boots to the hard drive it asks me for name and password for "other..." no other choices.

It doesnt have a wizard to setup a main account. I am afraid it might be finding account info from 2-3 years ago on the beta install, and I can't recall a thing about what I put in back then, I have been trying to guess username/password combos, but am at a loss.

Is there any way to admin this machine? I dont wanna blow away the hard drive. Is there a trick I can do from classic or the install cd to clean off any thing weird left by the beta, or is that a red herring?

Well, I went snooping around and the OSX installer seems to have a root password reset utility.

Testing that now...
