I finally order Panther and will upgrade from 10.2.8 when it arrives next week. I'm wondering if folks could point me to the "defacto" install routine for customized systems.

I'm running a swap disk on a 500mb part. of a second 40GB HD (using "swapcop" to configure). I have been using the QNX theme but reverted to Aqua for the upgrade. I also use Candybar for a system wide icon change and have a few menubar apps installed (Meteorologist, menu meters..etc). I'm also using Apple's x11 & fink for cinepaint and gnumeric. Should I wipe out the Fink /sw directory and reinstall these apps?

I suppose I could erase and install but I'd rather not reinstall 9.2.2 and all my apps as well. I'm still using classic for a couple necessary apps (Premeire and Photoshop 6). Should the "Archive and Install" option be decent enough? What should I look out for?

I also have an Aurora Fuse analog video card (hence the need to be able to boot into classic). Will that cause any problems???

Best Wishes for a New Year!

Since you are new here the first thing is to do a search on this. there are TONS of threads on OS X installs. Also since you are new and it's a New year I'll help ya out here.

From what it sounds like, you want to do the Archive and install. that would probably be your best option. Once you have chosen the Archive and install on on of the other screens there iwll be another place to customize. you want to do this. You will want to uncheck the extra lanuages in OS X and also under printers you will want to uncheck the printers you don't have If you have an older Epson you will need to Choose the second Epson option. Also you will need to select X11 in that window as well. ONce you do this your install should be about 1.6 gigs or less.

hope that helps with your install.
