Has anyone else noticed these problems?

Yahoo have just updated their webmail interface - now you can't reply to an email or attach files in Safari. I can cope with some wonky layout in the odd site, but this is rather crippling for me.

Is this the kind of thing Apple will fix?

Unhappily back to I/E...

Thanks
Ben

Try using Mozilla. It is much better then IE and has tabs and popup blocker like Safari.

Ok, now I can't access links in the SOS forum. Safari seems to have locked up in various sites. This wasn't happening this afternoon.

What the hell is going on?

Yes and yes. Like I said, it looks the same to me and everything still works.

I've repaired permissions and still no change. Do I trash Safari and download it again? I've only just installed Panther, so I'm puzzled as to why there are problems.

I recently got ADSL and found trouble with all kinds of sites and email, particularly with Safari. After a bit of trawling across the net I discovered about MTU, maximum transmit units. In the UK BT has set this to 1458, whereas macs and windows go at 1500, therefore when you send info upstream the units are to large to get through. IE seems to bypass these settings. On Panther you can go into the system preferences and to the advanced tab in network and change the MTU to 1458. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with airport and you have to resort to the terminal. If you type:

sudo /sbin/ifconfig en1 mtu 1458

it will prompt for the password, it will then set your mtus at 1458. For setting the wired ethernet change "en1" to "en0" (this will also work in Jaguar). You can check if it has changed by typing:

ifconfig

this will then list you network configuration, look for en0 for wired, en1 for airport. Obviously the best way to check is by doing the things you were trying to do before. I find System update is very susceptible to the MTU setting, and if its works everything else will. I don't think these changes have any effect on dial up though.

The settings is not permanent and will be lost if you restart. There is a way to make it permanent, this document refers to 10.2,

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107474

hope this is of help to you.

You can not download Safari.

Select Reset Safari... in the Safari application menu, then quit it and delete its preference file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist (~ is the symbol for you home folder)
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Many thanks for that last piece of advice - everything is now sorted. However, I've also downloaded Mozilla, so I'll investigate that further.

Thanks again.
