Open Activity Monitor and see if the Dock process is running.

When I minimize,

It shrinks all the way to the bottom.

No worries, I don't want to dabble into the system software,

I’m going to do a full re-installation of Panther 2nite.

I installed the system software on a separate drive, with nothing but the system files in it.

So yeah, easiest way to do that is through full re-format and re-install.

I am finding Panther to be a little weird sometimes, but the speed increase is worth all of it.

Sounds like you may have Dock auto-hiding on. Type Command-Option-D and see if that makes it come back. It would be easier than a full reinstall of Panther.

Before you re-install Panther try to change the screen resolution and than change it back to the old resolution, I had a similar problem after I had played warcraft III on my iMac, the dock was in the middle of my screen, changing the resolution did the trick for me, no need to re-install...

And even if you do reinstall, why wipe the hard drive first? It's much easier to do an archive install, and then just delete the old System folder. No need to back everything up if all you want to do is reinstall the system.

Check the screen resolution
Then try a reinstall if it doesn't work...

I'd just say trash com.apple.dock.plist. If a program is having trouble, 10-1 it's got a corrupt preferences file.

That's really kind of overkill. Just delete the prefs first. Then launch the dock manually if it still doesn't work.
