So I have an IMAP account with a bunch of folders in my inbox. I've set up a bunch of rules that moves messages into various folders.
Today I made a new folder and rule to go with it, and encountered a couple of problems. First, even though I selected my IMAP account name as the location of the new mailbox, Mail puts it "on my mac." I had to go into that account's webmail to make the new folder. Then, I went to make a rule that moves messages into that folder, and I am not able to select ANY of my inbox subfolders as destination folders. Ack!
I'm running 10.2.3, and I'm sure I've installed a few OS updates since the last time I made new folders and rules. Something seems to gone awry since then. Any ideas??

I've seen the same problem of creating mailboxes, and unfortunatly don't have a solutuion.
I also just ran into the Rules bug, where I can't set any IMAP folder as my destination, so I currently have 400 messages sitting in my inbox needing a rule created. I may go back to Entourage, at least its rules worked properly.

Search a bit... this was discussed a week or two ago. I don't have any problems creating folders on the server, or creating filters that put stuff in folders on the server. There's no issue with Mail.app... perhaps your IMAP server has a goofy limitation.
Try right clicking (er, control clicking) on the account and selecting "add folder."

Margaret, have you tried logging out and then logging back in? Many have observed that doing that will make Mail folders start working the way you've set them up. I have an IMAP account with subfolders and rules and they all work as expected. Don't give up!
