Hi all - I posted an earlier message up in the imacs forum about a hard drive problem... many have said my troubles are likely software related, not a hardware problem.

So, up to this point I've been using OS 9.2 on my imac dv 500mhz (572 mg RAM). I have a few questions about OSX (that would be installed fresh on a new hard drive) - first, to run in Classic Mode, do I also need to install OS 9.2 or does OSX come with a 9.X version as well???

If I get a hd that already has an early version of OS X and OS 9.2 on it, how hard is it to upgrade it to Panther?? Will my old LaserJet 4V printer work with OSX (it works perfectly in OS 9.2)?? Lots of questions from a die-hard OS 9.2 user....... but curious about some of the new programs that are only offered in OSX (Adobe Creative Suite, the newest iTunes, etc.)

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

os x does not come with os 9. you'll have to install it yourself. i recommend not doing so to wean yourself off of os 9 cold turkey. speaking of mixed metaphors... anyway, i would also do a clean (not wiping the disk but in a separate location, archive and install maybe) install of panther.

if your 4V is a standard postscript printer it should work fine with the built in drivers.
