I just bought a new LaCie external firewire HD. I noticed that anything added to that drive is viewable by anyone else logged in. In fact, when looking at the files in the terminal the owner of the files are set to whoever is logged in.

When reviewing the disk in Disk Utility I noticed it says:

"Permissions Enabled : No"

I assume this is why. Can someone tell me how to enable permissions? Do I need to reformat the drive?

Thanks,
Scott

Don't reformat!! Bring up the Info window for the external HD and deselect the checkbox that says "Ignore Ownership on this volume". That's all you need to do.
