Im using a Netgear MA101 USB Wireless Adaptor with a Belkin F5D6050 Driver. System 10.2.8 with all current updates. The extension file is a definate hack job containing more information than was intended.

Every once in a while, the driver ceases to work, and I have to hack the system to get it back. What Ive found after the last inoperative episode is this:

Deleting the Extensions.kextcache and the Extensions.mkext solves the problem. Ive also replaced the specific driver but I dont think its getting corrupted, I think the first two files are the culprits.

Question is: Why would this happen?

Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions or troubleshooting paths.
====

Note: I believe this belongs in the OSX forum as it is file related and not Network related. I did search and could find nothing that remotely resembles this problem.

Cheers.

probably a crappy driver..

you should try unloading and reloading the kext, use kextunload and kextload in the terminal and read the man pages on how to use it.

Some Guy,

I wouldnt doubt it.

Can you, or somebody else, elaborate on what the mechanics are of a `crappy driver` affecting the system? As in `why` and is there anything I can do to prevent this?

I will read the MAN pages..thanks for the tip.
