this is my setup:

a Cube with a dsl connection (no flat rate, so i like to switch it on and off)

an iBook, connected to the Cube via Airport.

internet sharing is on, works fine…

BUT!
when i start an iNet session on my iBook, i have to go to my Cube and click this little switch …

is there any - prefered costless - way, to "remotely/ start and end the dsl connection? in the system preferences/sharing there is th epoint "remote apple events" - maybe here? how?

Look around (on sites like versiontracker.com) for something called VNC. This program works a lot like Apple's Remote Desktop. It lets you see the screen of one computer on another one. You can do this over your LAN, or you can access your computer from across the internet. You would run the server software on your Cube, and the client on your iBook.

there must be a way you can ssh into the cube and use SystemStarter from command line to start internet connection sharing, I just can't seem to find it. in the mean time, VNC would work.

Use the power of AppleScript:

tell application "Internet Connect" to connect
tell application "Internet Connect" to disconnect

Send this to your cube for example in the terminal with ssh and osascript, or allow remote Apple Events on the Cube and have a short AppleScript on your iBook sending that, or however you like.

If it were me, I'd buy a $50 Linksys router that I could connect to and turn off the DSL connection.

Of course, if you do this from outside your network, you won't be able to turn it back on, you'll have to do that from the inside
