I have been using macos 10,2 since it came out. I have a ibook and love it. It is reliable and has never been sick. And macos x has never been any problem. Everything just works. My ibook is not fast. And my hardisk is soon very full. 10 GB of hardisk space is not a lot. And I am waiting for summer to by a G5. But the questing is. Why use macos 10.3 when 10.2 is working so well? Will my ibook be better with 10.3?

If you are happy with 10.2 then keep it. 10.3 will come with your G5, so use that, and if you like it then stick it on your iBook if you want.

In general though 10.3 > 10.2, plenty of marketing and reasons on apple.com

If you are happy with 10.2 though, then keep it.

I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

If you have an iBook with 10gb harddisk, I guess you have a 500mhz iBook like me. Panther will be *MUCH* faster than 10.2, particularly on your iBook.

Speed is the number 1 reason to switch to Panther for me.

Panther will speed up your iBook a lot. I have a Rev D iMac, X.0 was a dog, X.1 was crazy slow and barely usable, X.2 made it OK to use although not to fun, Panther makes a noticeable difference. Not to mention I much prefer the new finder to the old. Panther has it's own quirks just like Jaguar but I would say you should look at Upgrading.

I have an ibook 600, and Im using Jaguar, but my friend who has an ibook has panther and he loves it. I think the best thing about it is the speed, not just system speed, but how quick you can get what you want. ummm for example, if your looking for microsoft office x, u just click apps on the side bar, and there is is. if you need to copy something from a disk image, just drag it into the folder you want. i was so impressed to see these features. i think you would be happy with panther, you have nothing to lose. im saving up for mine

One thing about Panther that I like, is fast user switching. I am using my computer with some one else. And I hate to have to stop everything im doing just so that some one else can work on my computer. I like to leave my things that I am working with open. And find them open when I get back.

But speed is important to.

Just because OS X doesn't have activation/anti-piracy features doesn't mean that this is legal. It isn't.

I think that as long as he isn't using the two machines at the same time then this may theoretically be legal. Anyway its not exactly the crime of the century to do this...

Although what you said is true, I wouldn't assume that's what he was implying. I would think he meant, if you like it while using your G5 you should [buy another copy and] install it on the iBook as well. Either way, it's now clarified

I just installed Panther on a Friend's Pismo and he has already IM'd me and told me it is MUCH faster booting up and just system performance overall. He said it was worth the upgrade.

I'll echo the above. Panther is faster all around.
Plus, it does have some nifty features (Preview.app is great & fast, Exposé is actually very useful, font rendering is better... I could go on).

I'm running Panther on, among other machines, a 600MHz iBook (Rage 128 Mobility 8MB VRAM) with 640MB RAM and a 15GB HD. Panther is noticeably faster than Jag was.
