Hi, I got Panther a few days ago and was wondering if there were any apps out there that would let me get back the following:

1) Favorites back in the Go menu. I do not want to have to open a Finder window in order to get to Favorites. Putting the folder in the dock is not that appealing to me, either.

2) Command-T used to be "Add to Favorites". What is the new command for this?

3) When a window was inactive in Jaguar, its "header" bar became transparent. Any way to get this back?

4) I used to be able to change the dock's border and background color and transparency with the ClearDock Application Enhancer. What is the equivalent Panther app for this?

5) What is the equivalent Panther app to KeyCaps in Jaguar?

Thanks a lot.

Go to System Preferences. Click on International, then Input Menu. Check Keyboard Viewer. A little flag appears in your menu bar - click on it, and the keyboard viewer will be an option.

Yeah, I know, it's a hassle, and completely unintuitive. Write to Apple about it.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Yeah, that IS a hassle and unintuitive. Thanks, Charles, for the answer to #5. Anyone have responses for #1-4? Thanks.

Version 1.2.4 of ClearDock is compatible with Panther. Here is a list of Panther-compatible haxies.

The removal of Favourites Shortcuts is quite annoying - I'm still pressing Command-Shift-F to no avail!

Strangely this shortcut still works in Carbon Save Panels - e.g. PhotoShop's "Export to Web" function.

What I do is drag the Fav's directory to the SideBar - Which doesn't bring back the Shortcut - but does mean that the Favs dir. is close to hand at all times (Don't forget you can Drag items into items that are in the sidebar)

Dock transparency and customization can be changes with TransparentDock. I don't like the performace hit haxies creates nor the instability they can cause.

I have APE 1.4.1 and ClearDock 1.2.4, but when I make changes to the dock and click "Apply", the dock refreshes, but nothing changes in terms of dock appearance, including the triangle color. Anyone know why?

I restarted and it now works. So that's settled. But we're still left with questions 1, 2, and 3....Thanks.

1 and 2 aren't features of Panther any more. Deal with it. For 3 ask in the GUI customization forum
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

My sentiments exactly, find another way to do the same thing.
Why not put your own favorites folder in the side bar or the Dock?

Also, the Key Caps application from Jaguar runs just fine under Panther... You can always use CharlesS' Pacifist utility to extract the files from your Jaguar CD.

Yep, you certainly can and this is in fact what I do.

I just didn't want to get jumped on again for another shameless plug. Thanks!

I don't know why people jump on you... yours is the only app that does what it does. So who cares if you plug it... you wrote it. If other people want to complain, then they can go write their own program and plug it themselves.

In the Finder, select the File menu. Look at the add to sidebar menu option. Now press shift.

Thanks a lot.
No problem.

Actually, you can do this without having the flag pop up.
In any app, select "Special Characters..." from the Edit menu (or where ever it is in your app).
When the flag pops up, click it and go to "Open International..."
When International pops up, uncheck the "show input menu in menu bar" at the bottom of the window.
Now, when you click on "Special Characters...", the palette will still pop up, but no more flag.
