I got a simple question, but i haven't found an answer yet!

I got os 10.3 server installed, and i want to broadcast usernames and their email addresses to adress book or Mail with the use of the LDAP protocol.

My question is how to setup the LDAP part on the server. The client config is very simple as far as i have seen.

Hope you guys can help me, because the apple documents can't!

10.3 Server uses LDAP for authentication, not as an address-book. There may be a way of shoe-horning address-book over LDAP in, but it is not a part of Apple's GUI apps.

There is a good chance that you would have to install another LDAP package to get the address-book functionality without screwing up the authentication setup. But I am not an LDAP expert, so could well be wrong.

You can configure address book to look for addresses in an LDAP directory. This means when you type an address in mail and when it tries to complete the address it will go to the LDAP directory.

Note that I believe there is a bug in Panther currently that causes a huge delay in an LDAP lookup because for some reason it tries an IPV6 DNS query first and waits for that to fail before proceeding with a traditional IPV4 query. The fix for this is to put in the LDAP server IP address - not the domain name.

As far as pushing records down into client address books, I don't know if there's a way to do that (and it kind of defeats the whole purpose of an LDAP server).
