Dear Mac People

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I was not too sure which forum to pick!

I am currently on OS X 10.2.6
on a G4/400 Mhz/120GbWesternDigital

I put in a cd/cdrom and it will not mount on the desktop. However if I log out and go into another user a/c it will mount onto the desktop. When I go back into my a/c the disc has mounted and then eject the disc I can mount other discs. When I restart I have the original problem, no disc will mount. When I go to Disk Utility, the disc is clearly in the left hand column.

I have dredged the forums and all I could come up with was 'repair the permissions' which I have done many times. Do I need some other software, if so which? DiskWarrior maybe?

Someone suggested downgrading to a similar problem. I have tried to downgrade to 10.2, but when I come to the select the destination disk, screen there are no disks available- it is just blank! Is this because I am downgrading. I have reinstalled the 10.2.6 update but this made zero difference.

I also reset the p ram ..no difference

Does this mean I may need a new cdrom/dvdrom or do I need to pull it apart and give it a good clean. I tried that but could not get the top off.

It seems to me like this is a software issue...

I hope some kind soul will help me, as I am getting the window open to do a full deletion on the whole mac!!!(At my wits end)

Many thanks

Goody2
