Does Panther install Classic or do you need to create your own installation of 9?

Need this for Quark 4.1 (QXP 6 InDesign not an option)

1 Ghz Ti Book wasn't able to install classic using my old iMac OS 9 disks or my OSX Jaguar Disks on a separate partition.

Will soon upgrade to Panther on my mobile machine -- but does Panther, or can you make Panther install a classic layer 9.2 or it that 'history'?

[Pls note I'm an OSX user Panther and Jag 90% -- so please hold the sermons -- but need 9 for QXP and 4.1 for occasional work on my Ti for very specific prepress reasons]

You need to use your Mac OS 9 CDs. Panther requires 9.1 or later.

You need OS9 RETAIL, not iMac OS9 install disks.

There was recently an Apple doc on how to install OS9 from the restore CDs that came with non-oS9 booting macs after installing Panther. Do a search on MacNN or MacinTouch.com.

But Panther installs "classic." Is the question whether you need to have a real OS9 installation in order to use Quark? I don't use Quark so I don't know.

Another idea -- can you copy your OS9 system file, install Panther and then copy it back onto your HD? That may not work, however, as you probably need to boot INTO 9 in order to do the copying.

I'm sorry if I'm adding more confusion to the question. But I do know Panther installs Classic, b/c I don't have 9 on my 12-in PB, but Classic started up the other night, AFTER I installed Panther.
