Am new to Panther from 9.2.2. In setting things up, I ended up with a number of Accounts. I'm paring them back down to just one. before I delete the extra accounts...

I see several folders are locked with ownership under one of the other account names. If I delete that account, do the contents of that folder become unusable to me? How do I shift ownership/permission of a folder (and its contents) to another account.

Thanks for your help!

Select the folder in the Finder and do File->Get Info on it. In the Owner & Permissions pane of the Get Info dialog change ownership to yourself.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Thank you for the suggestion. Tried it... but the Get Info window ownership and permissions is all greyed out and cannot be changed. True of both the folder and each item in it. A small padlock icon shows next to the owner name.

Any other suggestions?

The small padlock is not just an icon, it's actually a button that allows you to click on it and unlock those settings with an administrator's password.

Apple's advanced human interface guidelines don't require a button to look like a button any more. This was done to separate man from mice. Probably because too many thought Mac OS was a "girly" OS.
