using ftp on terminal.app

I want to transfer all of my mp3s from my pc to my powerbook. I could zip them up, but a 6gb zip file is not fun. There are about 4 levels of subdirectories(bands -> albums -> sometimes other folders, for sorting singles -> mp3s).

I could use transmit, but the trial period is over and i don't want to pay that much for a simple ftp program.

check out the `mget *' option for `ftp' I'm not sure if it handles subdirectories... but it takes care of the current directory [haven't had to use with subs]

wget, curl, rsync, scp, cp -r... will all work. See their respective manpages.

If you don't want to pay for Transmit, Vicomsoft FTP Client works very well, and despite constant warnings about it being a seven day trial, the only limitation is that it quits after 20 minutes or so. However, it just pops up a dialog box when that happens, so if you don't confirm it, your transfer will still finish. So it would work well for that.

For the command line, there's always ncftp.

A few of the better freeware GUI FTP clients:
LifTP
Cyberduck
RBrowser Lite
FTP Thingy
