when i moved to osx, i dumped all my fonts in the system's font library...now i want to get all the non-essential fonts out of there!
where can i find a list of the required fonts?

You dumped all fonts in /System/Library/Fonts/ or you dumped all fonts into /System/Library/Fonts/? Anyway, both would be a mistake.
You can take Pacifist and check in the respective package which fonts are installed in /System/Library/Fonts by default and install them/resp. remove all others.
