Hello

I am presently on OSX 10.2.6

I have been having problems with not being able to mount any cd's unless I log-in as a different user. Then the cd's appear on the desktop.

Also when I use Disk Copy, I get the Error-95
No mountable file system

When I try to re-install OSX 10.2 the 'select a hard drive' screen comes up, but there are no hard drives to select, it is just blank..

Are all these problems connected?

Any ideas anyone

Cheers

The issue where problems go away when you log in as a different user means that the problem is in your local user preferences.

When booted from the 10.2 CD, open disk utility and make sure it sees your drive. Then, mount the volume if it isn't mounted (happens sometimes).

You cannot install 10.2 over top of a later version. You can, however, do an archive and install keeping users and network settings.

As far as the diskimages are concerned, make sure that /etc/hostconfig has the line AUTOMOUNT=-YES-

Detrius

Thanks for the reply.

How do I do this:

"As far as the diskimages are concerned, make sure that /etc/hostconfig has the line AUTOMOUNT=-YES-"

When I boot from the OS X10.2 disc, I can not select a disc to install and archive on , because there are zero drives showing.
However when I open Disk Utility this shows all the drives full mounted.

I have used DiskWarrior and MacJanitor but none of them have improved this problem

Thanks

Once you are booted into your OS X install, open Terminal and type the command:

sudo pico /etc/hostconfig

You will need to type your password in. This opens a command-line text editor. Make sure the file has the line AUTOMOUNT=-YES-

If the line is missing, insert it somewhere and type
ctrl-o to tell the program to save the file. ctrl-x to quite the program. Reboot and try diskimages again.

Thanks Detrius for the reply.

I'm afraid I am still unclear as to when to type this command in.

I went into Terminal when I was in OSX 10.2.6, not via the installer disc. In Terminal I typed in what you said, but AUTOMOUNT=-YES- was already present. So I quit out restarted and no change

Thanks anyway

Perhaps it won't let him select his drive because he is actually downgrading. I remember that some security update(s) would prevent the reinstallation of an older version of the OS.

Yes, I believe Big Mac is right. What you do (it was a new feature in Jaguar) is choose Options and select Archive and Install, and then select ? Keep all settings or something like that.

Hi there
I had a look around the Apple site and could not really find any article that stated that I could definitely not downgrade. One article said I might develop problems with other applications.

"What you do (it was a new feature in Jaguar) is choose Options and select Archive and Install, and then select ? Keep all settings or something like that."

Hi Ryaxnb, I am not given the chance of choosing 'Options' and select Archive and Install. Instead I get no drives showing up and only the chance to 'Go Back' or quit and restart

Disk Copy only seems to works when I have logged out, into another user and then logged back in again to my account..

Thanks
