Menu Items Keeps Crashing Out

Hey just installed panther and no matter what i do the SystemUIServer seems to keep getting wedged after a few minutes running. Nothing really unusual done but i can't get the thing to force quit from the Terminal. i've deleted the prefernce files, and i'm out of ideas as to what to do next!
please help!

ok just a quick update, seems to be a problem with either FireWire or my iPod, (3rdGen). When i unplug my iPod the menu extras come back to life. Also iTunes doesn't always see it and iSync acts like it isn't there. I used it as a backup device and after that i used Disk Utility to reformat it, this was not as successful as i had hoped and i had to download the iPod 2.1 Updater and restore the iPod software. But this doesn't seems to have worked very well.
Will try again with the iPod software.
