I have an iRack set up for NetBooting. The eMacs, iMacs, and G4s work perfectly. They boot up right into the OS X installer.

The B&W G3s refuse to NetBoot. I read in the Apple TIL that B&W G3s are only NetBoot 1 compliant, and not NetBoot 2 compliant. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two is that NetBoot 2 is over DHCP.

So if that's the problem, how do I make the NetBoot service NetBoot 1 compliant so we can deploy our NetInstall image over the B&W G3s?

The B&W G3s are the computers we relaly need to get working on this because we can't Target Disk Mode on them, and just daisychain them and clone the HDs. So NetInstall seems like it's the best tool for mass deployment on the B&W G3s (about 30 of them, btw.)

If I understand well, you'd need bootp to be running on a server.

Good luck

If you're running Jaguar Server, just check the "Static" checkbox in the NetBoot config tab in Server Settings. It should be a similar option in Panther Server under Server Admin.

Also, the documentation provided with OS X Server is very good. It will give you this info and more.

There are no BootP settings or a "Static" checkox anywhere in NetBoot or DHCP settings under Server Admin.

Anyone actually running Panther that can help me out?

Well, I decided to put my AppleCare Premiums Service & Support plan to good use, and I called Apple.

Panther 10.3 no longer supports Static NetBoot, only Jaguar does.

What the f*ck?! This so bullcrap. The B&W G3s are officially supported for Panther, why the hell don't they support NetBoot 1?

Argh! Now I have to completely reinstall the damn server with Jaguar. F*cking gay.
