I have an iMac DV400 running 10.3.2 and recently (the past week or two) a mysterious file "gmon.out" is showing in my Macintosh HD folder. I usually delete it without problem but it keeps reappearing the next time I check. It doesn't open in any app and Get Info says it's a document and 21.2MB.
I repaired permissions today and this file is still showing up.

Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks in advance..

edit: just tried deleting it and said it was in use. Then I force quit this process I've never seen before "fs_usage" and it deleted after that...

gmon.out is generated when software is still in debugging stages - compiling apps in project builder (xcode) leaving the "generate profile code" option on will cause this to happen. I think gmon.out is generated only when the application quits - so that might help you find out which application is writing that file.

So - are you using any software that is in beta stage? I can't help you as to what app it's related to, but i think that is what's causing your problem

Thanks for the help. My friend also said it had something to do with debugging and beta apps. Turns out it was SpyChat 2.2 that created the file upon quit. That came out last month. Good thing I don't need that crap anymore anyways. Deleted.
