A friend sent me eight emails, each containing one JPEG with 1000x1386 resolution (scan of magazine article).
I received them all in Apple Mail. They did not show an attachment in the message list, but they did show to be 1.2MB. And in the Preview of the message I can see a small image of the magazine page.
To read it, I need to be able to save the image off so that I can use Preview and zoom in on it. But dragging doesn't work and right clicking and hitting "Copy" just beeps.
So, I redirect the message to myself and hit "Make Plain Text" before hitting "Send". When I receive the redirected message, the image still doesn't show up as an attachment, but now right-clicking does let me save it.
When I look at the saved message, it is a TIFF file. And if I open the TIFF file in Preview, I can indeed see the page and zoom in on it... but to no avail, as it is a low-resolution image!?!?
QUESTIONS:
1) Any idea where in all that the file would have been converted from hi-res JPEG to lo-res TIFF???
2) Any idea how I can directly access the embedded images in the first message (and thereby avoid the redirect and make plain text steps)??
3) Any other suggestions on what might be going on here?
P.S. I wasn't the only person he sent those eight emails to... so, since I'm the only one complaining, it would seem he did indeed send hi-res JPEGs out.
Thanks!!
