Can anybody recommend a good CDRW drive (internal) for a PowerMac G4/450 AGP. We've used a 24x QPS! FireWire, but it no longer works in Panther, so we are just going to buy a new one since the other one is a bit slower. Any recommendations out there for an internal 48x CDRW? Thanks!

I'd suggest you have look at xlr8yourmac's drive database and check for reports on replacement CDRW drives that are working with 10.3. Look at the Apple homepage to get a list of supported CDRW drives. This might help you to end up with a drive that's supported and works fine.

Another way might be to "make" your drive supported by 10.3. To do so check xlr8yourmac and their tipps on this topic. But since your drive is a little slow for you anyway, probably getting a new one is your preferred solution.

Best place to look is the drive report database at xlr8yourmac.com. Its very complete and constantly updated by readers.

The actual mechanism inside my external LaCie FireWire 52x24x52x CD-RW is a LITE-ON LTR-522465. It works great, although it's pretty noisy when reading/writing CD's.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
