Hello

I am starting a new business. I will be running my entire business on mac's running panther. I have found that most apps that I need are now available for OS X. Does anyone know of a forum or user group that deal with issues related to running a mac based business.

Thanks,
FrozenTundra

Apple's own business website would be a good place to start. Then obviously there's forums like this one and those over at MacWorld.

Apples business site does not have a forum. They appear to have scaled back the content recently. It has suggestions of software solutions but no real reviews.

I would love to find a forum and that would discuss solutions for business problems. I do not want to post off topic to this forum and feel that I am since the only real connection here is that I am runnning the business on OS X.

Thanks, all help is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people will be able to help you on this forum. Even if they don't run a business, they know the Mac pretty well...

Thanks for the friendly reception.

My next big decision is picking an accounting package. It looks like Account edge 2004 and Quickbooks Pro 6 are the obvious choices. I have not been able to find a review that compares the 2 apps.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject.

Thanks,
FrozenTundra

Look at Macintouch.com. They have extensive coverage of the problems with QuickBooks in one of their reader reports. (The best way to search Macintouch is to go to google and type in your search, but include "site:macintouch.com" [without the quotes] in the search field.)

Reviews can help, but there's nothing like getting your hands on a demo. A lot of it comes down to personal preference...see this thread, for example:

I do not like those green links and spam.

Thanks for the tip on the seminar. Unfortunately I am not in NY. Perhaps they will take there seminar on the road.
I have been testing out Market Circles Daylite application. It is a great app and will be my crm of choice.

The scariest thing to me about going into business is the accounting. That is why I am looking for advice or a review on accounting apps.

What I know so far is that Quickbooks Pro 6 and Account Edge 2004 both have a pretty good feature set. What I don't know is which has better documentation, support and resources. Which will be easier for a novice(no make that pre novice) to set up.

Wow .. I didn't know you could restrict to domains that way (and I swear I read the google syntax tutorial ... um, a while ago).

Thought this may be helpfull to others that are running a business on the Mac.

Beginning next month, Apple retail stores will host "Pro Days" for business professionals. "Join us for Pro Day at the Apple Store. Every Wednesday, we open an hour early to offer free special presentations and demonstrations to help business professionals learn about all the latest technologies." Presentations for February include: "How to Run Your Business on a Mac" (Feb. 4), "How to Unwire Your Business on a Mac" (Feb. 11), "How to Manage Your Customers and Contacts on a Mac" (Feb. 1, and "How to Promote Your Business on a Mac" (Feb. 25).
