I just upgraded my 533 G4 tower to 10.2.8 from 10.2.6 because it is required for iLife 04 disk burning. I did the combo 10.2.8 upgrade. Now for some reason I can not launch most of my apps, either from the dock, or directly from the app folder. They just bounce once, and then thats it. All of my iLife apps launch, along with safari, mail, etc. But most of the rest won't. I repaired permissions before and after the install. I then booted from the Jag disk, and repaired permissions from there, but still nothing. If I do a "get info" on a app, and look at the permission settings, they say "me" with read/write, and admin with read/write, etc. If I look at Safari, which does launch, it says system instead of "me". Also for reason, there are two "chinese" characters before the word "me", that I don't remember seeing before. I am not a permissions expert, and I don't know what is going on. thanks for your help,

I just wanted to add that I also did a security update after the 10.2.8 upgrade that showed up in the automatic update. I don't know which was responsible, but it intalled 3 security updates. I tried copying a application (quicken) to my machine from my powerbook, thinking that there was something corrupt about the permissions, but noting changed. Disk warrior fixed several things, but still no go. DW did show that the SMART diagonistics in drive showed some possible problems with the drive. (it has showed that for several months) It also showed that I had 3 overlapping files, but they were some .tiff files. Some apps are fine, but most won't launch. If I go ahead and upgrade to Panther, will I just make thinks worse. thanks again
