I have an iMac with superdrive using OS X. I import most of my
digital pictures into iPhoto and establish albums. How can I
transfer pictures in these albums to CDs?

1. Export the desired pictures out of iPhoto.

2. Insert a blank CD.

3. Drag pictures onto new CD icon on the desktop.

4. Burn CD.

Do not use the Burn CD/DVD functionality within iPhoto since this is designed to burn an iPhoto Library ... directory structure and all ... onto the CD/DVD media ... unless of course this is your objective. If you just want the pictures on a CD then do what I outlined above.
