I have a HP Printer Scanner Copier and have always used the "Fast Draft" setting under Output/Pages in OS 10.2. This was awesome because my printer sipped ink and spit out pages like ballplayer with a fresh pouch of chew. Now that I have upgraded to panther this setting is gone and I can't find any that will emulate it. I tried the "increase lightness" quartz filter, but this did nothing. Additionally I can't select "color conversion" "in printer" to allow the printer to control the ink levels. Anyone else have problems with this or know of any solutions?

Make sure you have HP printer drivers installed (you probably only have gimp-print drivers for HP). They are on Panther CD2, in the Packages folder. Just double click on the package to install the HP drivers and try again.

I have an HP PSC also.

This option has disappeared in the drivers that came with Panther (yes, the ones installed from CD2). It's definitely a hassle. I've been thinking about downloading the older driver from the HP website, but I'm not sure if it will be compatible.

Well, the good news on this topic is that there are new drivers for the HP PSC 700 and 900 series that came out this weekend. The bad news is that I've tried installing them three times and the installer always hangs...

I finally managed to get the new HP drivers installed, and it DOES return the "Paper Type / Quality" menu, so we can once again print in draft mode.

Getting it installed was pretty much a crapshoot. I decided to run the Uninstaller for the old driver first, which also hung for about 5 minutes. After I force quit it, then the new driver installer managed to run...
