Anyone seen an issue where the system looses the ability to write to the hard drive? I had this problem a few times a while back on my Powerbook, but thought the reinstall of 10.3 fixed it. Seems it didn't, twice today I have had to reboot due to it.

Every time it happens, no program, including the system, can write to the hard drive. If I issue a restart in the terminal, the system restarts and comes back fine. But, if I didn't have terminal open ahead of time, I can't restart cleanly.

It's been unpredictable, as sometimes I can pull 14 days uptime, but yet today, I couldn't even pull 8 hours of uptime when it happened the second time. Disk space free has been between 6-15GB when it happens, so thats not the issue.

Not sure what hardware component could cause this failure.

Have you tried running Repair Permissions?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Ran that after the second time today, and it fixed a few minor things. I'm going to leave the system on again tonight and see if it happens again. I wish I could catch it when it exactly happens, but it's hard to tell.
